Scope: Civils & Groundworks

Client: Alan Dick UK Ltd on behalf of Arqiva

Requirements: In support of ADUK as PC1 (Principal Contractor) Obelisk Networks UK won the contract to undertake all civils work to facilitate the erection of a new 147m guyed mast to replace the existing mast as part of Arqiva’s UK Digital Swap-Over (DSO) programme.

Solution: Obelisk was responsible for the end to end delivery of all civils related work in preparation for the replacement guyed mast. Our scope of work on this project included:

  • Project & programme management
  • Project management, Site Supervision, CDM Coordination
  • Setting out of all tracks, road widening works, foundations and fencing
  • Exposing, diverting/protecting existing buried services
  • Removal & spreading of spoils • Asbestos sampling, testing and removal
  • CBR testing
  • Permanent stone access tracks and crane pads
  • Extended compound open welded mesh fencing & gates c/w perimeter security lighting
  • Reinforced concrete mast foundation and stay anchor blocks incl mass fill
  • Electrical, earthing and lightning protection works
  • Dilapidation surveys (pre-commencement and post completion)
  • Reinstatement & making good all areas incl National Trust access road

Obelisk Impact: Using experienced local Project Managers Obelisk Networks UK controlled the site and supervision of the work to ensure strict compliance with all Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental obligations and requirements. The contract was completed on time by mid 2010, despite several design changes as a result of the ground make up and a number of unknown buried services.
