Project: BT DETI Core Fibre

Scope: Installation of subduct, cable-blowing/ splicing and testing fibre

Client: BT (in partnership with DETI – Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment

Location: Northern Ireland

Date: Sep 2010 to present

Requirements: To install fibre between parent and child BT exchanges for Next Generation Access broadband rollout.

Solution: Obelisk is responsible for end to end delivery including ILM/ OTDR testing of fibre and handover ready for commissioning & FTTC rolllout. Our scope of work on this project includes:

  • Project & programme management
  • Site Supervision
  • CDM Coordination (Project Supervisor, Construction Stage)
  • Civils works, including ducting, chamber construction, raising chamber covers
  • Rodding & roping, clearing blockages, de-silting chambers/ duct runs
  • Cabling work (cable-blowing fibre, splicing and testing)
  • Road openings & reinstatement of surfaces etc. (incl. noticing using Symology)
  • Cable, subduct and stores logistics

Obelisk Impact: Obelisk telecoms UK has installed over 150km of subduct and fibre (24f, 48f and 96f) and continues to install further fibre routes. Using local highly experienced PM’s and resources, Obelisk has delivered consistently on time and within budget to the highest quality and safety standards.
